Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal visited the Puskesmas Tebet primary health care center during his official trip to Indonesia to review frontline health services and operations.

The Director General of Primary Care and Community Health briefed the minister on the range of services offered at the facility, explaining how the center delivers comprehensive primary health care to the local community with an emphasis on preventive, promotive and basic curative services.

Mustafa Kamal commended Indonesia’s primary health care model, describing a strong primary care network as the backbone of any sustainable health system. He noted that this model is not only noteworthy for Jakarta or Indonesia but can serve as an example for the wider region.

The minister emphasized that strengthening the primary health care system is essential to reduce the patient burden on larger hospitals, and said Pakistan is keen to adopt elements of the Indonesia primary health care model. He added that effective measures are already underway in Pakistan to bolster primary health care delivery.

The visit highlighted bilateral cooperation on health systems and Pakistan’s interest in learning from regional best practices to advance primary health care reforms at home.
