Advancing Non Formal Education in Karachi

Director of Literacy and Non formal Education visited the Society for Education Welfare in Karachi to support stakeholders working to bring non formal education to out-of-school children. The visit focused on accelerating local efforts and strengthening partnerships to expand access across Sindh.

SEW has launched its ALP program in Sindh and organised a two-day ALP training for Package A in Karachi with backing from the Directorate and JICA. The training gathered teachers and trainers serving urban slums, providing practical guidance aimed at improving classroom delivery and outreach to children who have dropped out of formal school.

The Director of Non formal education Sindh attended the sessions along with the Provincial Coordinator from JICA AQAL-III, and held meetings with SEW management to discuss scaling the programme provincewide. Discussions emphasised practical steps to improve retention, measurement of learning outcomes and community engagement to make non formal education more effective in low-income neighbourhoods.

During the event the Director engaged directly with teachers and trainers to review methodologies and address challenges faced in informal settings. Certificates were presented to participating teachers and the SEW team in recognition of their completion of the ALP training and their continued role in expanding non formal education opportunities across Karachi.
