Launching National Infrastructure Audit 2026

The National Disaster Management Authority convened the National Seminar on the Infrastructure Audit Program 2026 at the National Emergency Operations Centre in Islamabad to initiate a nationwide effort to assess and fortify vulnerable public infrastructure ahead of this year’s monsoon season. Endorsed by the Prime Minister’s Office and held under the Prime Minister’s directive, the initiative is designed to shift disaster management from reactive response to proactive prevention through rigorous, evidence-based audits.

Federal Minister for Housing and Works Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada attended as the chief guest and highlighted the urgent need to identify and remedy structural vulnerabilities to reduce potential loss of life and property during extreme weather events. The minister’s remarks underscored the role of coordinated government action in improving building safety and public confidence.

Chairman NDMA Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik outlined a coordinated nationwide rollout for the Infrastructure Audit program that includes standardized audit methodologies, digital reporting mechanisms, and clear criteria for prioritizing high-risk buildings. Emphasis was placed on consistent implementation across federal and provincial authorities to ensure audits yield actionable risk reduction measures.

Speakers at the seminar emphasized that the Infrastructure Audit will rely on risk-informed, evidence-based assessments to identify structural weaknesses in public facilities and infrastructure. Digital reporting was presented as a key tool to improve transparency, speed up information sharing, and enable authorities to triage and address the most critical vulnerabilities before the monsoon arrives.

Senior stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to jointly implement the Infrastructure Audit 2026, with a focus on strengthening resilience in communities across Pakistan. The program is positioned as a practical step toward reducing disaster losses by prioritizing preventive measures and ensuring audits translate into concrete retrofitting and mitigation actions at federal and provincial levels.
