Preventing Adiala Jail from Becoming Political HQ
Barrister Danyal Chaudhry, Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, said in Islamabad on 28 November 2025 at the Westminster’s Food Festival that any attempt to turn Adiala Jail into a political party headquarters is unlawful and unacceptable. He accused the PTI and the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of pressing an illegal demand to seek political guidance from a convicted individual detained at Adiala Jail, a move he described as a clear violation of prison regulations.
Chaudhry said that all social media reports about former prime minister Imran Khan’s health are false and fabricated. He noted that the Jail Superintendent has confirmed Imran Khan is stable and secure and warned that the spread of such propaganda appears to be coordinated from abroad.
The Parliamentary Secretary emphasized that forcing demands through power or pressure has no place in a democratic system and that the rule of law must prevail. He cautioned that street agitation and mass mobilization risk driving the country toward chaos and instability, a prospect for which there is no room in the national interest.
Clarifying legal procedures, Chaudhry stated that meetings inside prisons are permitted only under judicial orders, and any unauthorized political activity at Adiala Jail would be illegal and a potential threat to national security. He urged all parties to respect legal channels and court processes rather than seek extra‑legal solutions.
While addressing the audience at the Westminster’s Food Festival, Chaudhry also highlighted the event’s role in promoting social harmony and cultural traditions, saying the festival reflects community unity and teaches the values of mutual respect and brotherhood.
