Denmark Ambassador Drives New Green Partnership

The first month of the new mission in Pakistan has been intense and wide-ranging as Maja Derrous Mortensen set out to strengthen ties across diplomacy, culture and development. The Denmark ambassador formally presented her credentials to the President of Pakistan and quickly moved to high-level discussions with the Prime Minister and multiple federal ministers.

In meetings with the Prime Minister and the Federal Ministers for Finance, Maritime Affairs and Commerce, the envoy emphasised Denmark’s focus on green solutions, sustainable infrastructure and enhanced bilateral trade. The Denmark ambassador underscored a shared ambition to translate these priorities into practical projects that benefit local communities and businesses across Pakistan.

At the Danish Residence, the ambassador hosted “An Evening of Music & Friendship,” bringing together Danish partners and Pakistani artists for collaborative performances. Danish musicians performed alongside talented young artists from Hunza and a celebrated qawwali group from Lahore, highlighting cultural exchange as a key pillar of the bilateral relationship.

Beyond formal diplomacy, the ambassador made a first TV appearance, visited the colourful Lok Mela, recorded a social media introduction video, and joined embassy colleagues for a friendly cricket match, all signalling an active public engagement with Pakistani society. These events have helped build connections with civil society, cultural institutions and local audiences.

The ambassador’s first intercity engagement included visits to Lahore and Narowal to inaugurate a Denmark-funded student incubation centre at a local university, alongside the Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives. One month into her posting, the Denmark ambassador is fully engaged and focused on deepening a practical, green partnership with Pakistan that spans education, culture and sustainable development.
