Driving Anti Harassment Change at UMT Lahore
Change began with an awareness walk at the University of Management and Technology Lahore where students, faculty and senior management gathered to signal a collective commitment to safer academic spaces under the slogan HumBadleingeSoch. The event put anti harassment front and center on campus, pairing visible solidarity with practical information for students.
The Federal Ombudsperson delivered a keynote stressing the urgency of protecting fundamental rights and strengthening institutional safeguards to ensure accountability. Senior leadership stood alongside students, including Dr. Asif Raza (Rector) and Dr. Naida Anwar (Chairperson, Anti-Harassment Committee), reinforcing that meaningful change requires coordinated action from administrators and the student body.
More than 130 participants attended the seminar portion where a dedicated campus booth offered guidance on rights and reporting pathways under Pakistani law. The booth served as a hands-on resource, helping students understand how to access support and file complaints when necessary, an important step in embedding anti harassment practices into everyday campus life.
Muhammad Shazib Iqbal, Assistant Law Officer, outlined key provisions of the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010 and led a dynamic question-and-answer session that connected statutory protections with lived experiences. The legal briefing clarified obligations for institutions and remedies available to victims, helping bridge the gap between legal frameworks and practical implementation.
The day combined awareness, legal education and institutional commitment to move anti harassment work forward at UMT Lahore. Participants left with a clearer understanding of their rights and responsibilities, and campus leaders emphasized continuing dialogue, strengthened policies and accessible reporting channels to keep momentum for change.
