Zardari Visit Iraq Strengthens Bilateral Ties
President Asif Ali Zardari paid an official visit to Iraq from 20 to 24 December 2025 at the invitation of the Iraqi President. The Zardari visit Iraq included a series of constructive meetings with the Iraqi President and the Prime Minister, reflecting a shared commitment to deepen state-to-state engagement.
During the visit President Zardari also met the Governors of Najaf and Karbala and made respectful visits to the holy shrines in Baghdad, Najaf, Kufa and Karbala. These shrine visits underscored the cultural and religious connections between the two nations, and played a visible role in advancing people-to-people ties.
The meetings and engagements during the Zardari visit Iraq reinforced cooperation across political, economic, defense and cultural spheres. Pakistani officials described the trip as a step toward expanded collaboration and closer diplomatic coordination that can benefit both countries in the months ahead.
