Driving Higher Education Through University Entrepreneurship

A productive engagement session with Ms. Raquel King from the Public Engagement Office at the U.S. Consulate Lahore took place this morning with Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, Vice Chancellor, and senior officials of The Islamia University Bahawalpur, focusing on strengthening higher education and youth pathways to employment.

The discussion emphasized academic growth and the role of university-led initiatives in youth engagement, highlighting entrepreneurship and employability as key drivers. Participants explored how higher education can better prepare graduates for the job market through experiential learning and industry linkages.

Following the formal meeting, the U.S. delegation visited the university Business Incubation Center and observed teaching practices and the institutional framework at the Department of Entrepreneurship & Innovation. Students presented their business startups and classroom-based entrepreneurial projects, demonstrating practical learning outcomes, early-stage venture development, and a culture of innovation being nurtured on campus.

Representatives from the U.S. Consulate included Mr. Orangzaib, Mr. Ghazenfer Jamal and Security Incharge Maj. Ferzoq. University attendees included Prof. Dr. Jawad Iqbal, Dean Faculty of Management Sciences, Registrar Muhammad Shajee ur Rahman, Director PR Dr. Shahzad Ahmed Khalid, Career Development Officer Ms Tahira Akhtar, Dr. Shaheer Rizvi, Zaid Siddiqui and Security Officer Wadood Ahmad. Officials engaged directly with students and faculty on ways to scale incubated ideas and enhance employability pathways.

The visit underlined a shared interest in translating academic research and classroom projects into viable startups while strengthening higher education linkages with business support structures. Continued collaboration between the university and external partners aims to expand opportunities for student entrepreneurs and embed practical enterprise training across curricula.
