Uniting Diplomacy and Art for Tree Plantation Day

The Pakistan National Council of the Arts hosted a musical cultural evening in Islamabad to mark Tree Plantation Day, bringing together government leaders, diplomats and artists under the theme Music for the Earth – Culture in Harmony with Nature. The event showcased how creative expression can amplify environmental awareness and inspire collective action.

The gathering included senior officials such as Mr. Aurangzeb Khan Khichi Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Minister of State Mr. Huzaifa Rehman, Parliamentary Secretary Ms. Farah Naz Akbar, Federal Secretary Mr. Asad Rehman Gilani, and Director General PNCA Mr. Ayub Jamali who joined artists and civil society in supporting the Tree Plantation Day initiative.

Ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from Ukraine, Kazakhstan, China, the Philippines, Turkmenistan, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Türkiye attended the evening and praised PNCA’s effort to merge cultural diplomacy with environmental stewardship. Their presence underscored shared regional and international interest in using culture to promote sustainability.

Performances combined traditional and classical forms including Santoor and violin recitals alongside rabab pieces and medley dance presentations that wove regional melodies, classical rhythms and folk expression. The programme illustrated how music and movement can convey messages about conservation while celebrating Pakistan’s diverse cultural heritage.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Aurangzeb Khan Khichi highlighted that Tree Plantation Day is a national call to protect natural resources and that art and music have a vital role in mobilizing communities for environmental care. Mr. Ayub Jamali reaffirmed PNCA’s commitment to integrate culture and sustainability through local and international programmes that strengthen Pakistan’s cultural identity while promoting responsible stewardship of nature.

The evening drew a large and diverse audience of artists, environmental advocates and diplomatic guests who expressed eagerness for future cultural exchanges and joint initiatives. By centring Tree Plantation Day within a cultural framework, PNCA aimed to foster lasting partnerships that advance both ecological resilience and people to people ties through the arts.
