Rawalpindi Attack Sparks Calls for Immediate Justice
A newly married couple’s routine outing turned into violence when gunmen opened fire outside their home on a busy street in Rawalpindi. The Rawalpindi attack left the husband critically injured and the wife scrambling for protection as she named suspects and sought swift action from authorities.
Iman said she and her husband, Syed Mubeen Hussain, had a love marriage two months earlier and initially faced family resistance. Relatives later reached out and invited them to visit, assuring the couple that tensions had been resolved. Trusting that assurance, they left home and were attacked at the gate when unknown men opened fire without warning.
Mubeen was struck by multiple bullets and was rushed to Benazir Bhutto Hospital in critical condition. Medical reports recorded firearm injuries to his ribs, hip and leg as doctors work to stabilize him.
Despite his injuries, Mubeen provided a police statement identifying the main shooter as a close relative, Raja Taimoor Abbasi, and naming an additional unidentified assailant. Police records indicate a pistol was used and that the firing showed clear intent to kill. A First Information Report has been registered at Sadiqabad Police Station in Rawalpindi under sections related to attempted murder and acting with common intention.
Iman survived the attack and has publicly warned that she will hold close family members and relatives responsible if any harm comes to her or her husband. She says she fears for her life and is demanding protection. In a public appeal she called on Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Chief Minister of Punjab, to ensure immediate and fair justice and to curb violence carried out in the name of family honour following this Rawalpindi attack.
The investigating officer could not be reached for comment as the reporter found his mobile phone switched off. Police say the inquiry is ongoing and the authorities have recorded the statements as they pursue leads in the case.
