Governor Kundi Briefs Acting President on Tirah Evacuations

Islamabad, January 28, 2026 — Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi met with Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani at the presidential residence to discuss the province’s law and order, governance and the overall humanitarian situation.

Kundi briefed the Acting President on the temporary evacuation from the Tirah valley, reporting that adverse conditions and security considerations necessitated the movement of affected families. The governor highlighted the immediate relief response and the need for continued support for those displaced by the situation in Tirah.

The merged districts branch of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in Tirah has been actively engaged in relief operations, with PRCS teams reaching people trapped by severe snowfall and delivering food, medicines and other essential items. Kundi said relief work continues and that responders are focused on ensuring timely assistance to those in need.

In Bara tehsil, relief consignments were distributed to evacuees today, and the governor assured full cooperation from provincial authorities to support displaced families during the temporary relocation. The focus remains on meeting immediate needs while coordinating longer term measures for affected communities.

Acting President Gillani expressed sympathy for families evacuated from the Tirah valley and paid tribute to the sacrifices of the people of Khyber and the merged districts in the fight against terrorism. He emphasised that sustainable peace in the province is essential for lasting development and reiterated the federal commitment to the progress and welfare of the merged districts and Khyber.
