Atta Tarar Backs National Press Club Leaders
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar met with a delegation from the National Press Club in Islamabad, led by senior journalist Haji Nawaz Raza, who was accompanied by newly elected president Abdul Razzaq Sial and secretary Dr. Furqan Rao. The minister congratulated office-bearers from both successful groups in the club elections and offered his best wishes to the executive body.
During the meeting, Atta Tarar emphasized the importance of the National Press Club as a strong voice for the journalist community and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting media welfare and resolving sectoral issues. He highlighted the club’s role in promoting professional standards and pledged ongoing cooperation from the Ministry of Information.
Detailed discussions covered specific matters including the housing quota for journalists, the PSDP grant allocated for the National Press Club building, and proposals for health insurance for media professionals. The minister instructed the federal secretary for information to issue necessary directions to expedite the PSDP grant process for the press club’s building project.
Atta Tarar affirmed that the ministry will continue to play an active role in addressing journalists’ concerns and that all relevant steps will be taken to resolve outstanding issues. The delegation formally invited the federal minister to the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected office-holders, scheduled after Eid ul-Fitr, and the minister accepted the invitation.
Present at the meeting were Prime Minister’s media coordinator Bader Shahbaz Waraich, Federal Secretary Information Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil and Principal Information Officer Mubashar Hassan, who joined the talks on matters affecting the journalist community and implementation of agreed actions.
