Championing Moving on ABC at Peshawar Cancer Conference
Prof. Muhammad Arshad Cheema, former Professor of Surgery at King Edward Medical University and founding president of the Surgical Oncology Society of Pakistan, visited the Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning stall during the 18th Cancer Conference at PGMI Peshawar under the theme Excellence in Cancer Care through Collaboration.
During the visit Prof. Cheema commended the Moving on ABC initiative (NIHR 205561), acknowledging its potential to support patients and families through evidence-based psychosocial care. His remarks drew attention to the programme’s role in integrating psychosocial interventions with broader cancer services.
The PILL team provided a comprehensive briefing on the Moving on ABC programme, outlining its objectives, methods and early engagement strategies. They also highlighted PILL’s wider contributions to cancer awareness and prevention being carried out under the Defeat Cancer Initiative, stressing the importance of community-level psychosocial support alongside clinical treatment.
The interaction between the Lahore delegation and PILL at the Peshawar event underscored growing collaboration across provinces to strengthen cancer care pathways. Stakeholders present reiterated that initiatives like Moving on ABC can enhance patient outcomes when paired with coordinated awareness and prevention efforts.
