IPC Chief Sets Plan to Revive Pakistan Hockey

Secretary Inter-Provincial Coordination Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, recently appointed ad-hoc President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, has laid out a practical agenda to revive Pakistan Hockey by stabilizing the federation and rebuilding stakeholder trust.

Wani said the immediate priority is to address pressing organisational issues and revamp team management so that players can concentrate on training and competition. The short-term measures will run alongside a medium-term programme to craft a strategic vision for the sport, upgrade coaching standards and strengthen training infrastructure across the country.

The ad-hoc leadership will focus on improving governance and ensuring efficient resource management within the PHF. Plans include tighter institutional coordination and outreach to the private sector to secure partnerships and funding that support athlete development and operational stability for Pakistan Hockey.

Administrative reforms are intended to free players from off-field distractions, allowing teams to prepare for matches while administrators handle logistics, selection processes and support services. Transparency and fairness will be central to decision-making, according to Wani.

All relevant institutions have been engaged to restore confidence in the national game, and Wani announced an immediate lifting of the ban on national team captain Hammad Butt to enable full participation. He also committed to holding elections for a new, democratically elected PHF leadership once the organisation is stabilised.

Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister for the trust placed in him, Wani urged federal and provincial stakeholders, the hockey fraternity and the private sector to collaborate in restoring Pakistan Hockey to its former standing on the international stage.
