The House Business Advisory Committee met on Monday at Parliament House in Islamabad to consult in detail on legislative matters slated for consideration during the Senate’s 359th sitting. The meeting was presided over by Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, and members conducted a thorough review of the upcoming agenda.

The committee assessed the bills and motions expected before the Senate and reached consensus on including substantive national and international matters for debate in forthcoming sittings. In its deliberations the committee aimed to streamline the legislative timetable while ensuring space for priority issues to be addressed.

Members present included Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Senator Raja Nassar Abbas, Senator Rana Sanaullah Khan, Senator Sherry Rehman, Senator Mansoor Ahmed, Senator Haji Hidayatullah Khan, Senator Kamran Murtaza, Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti, and Senator Kamil Ali Agha. Federal ministers Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar for Law and Justice and Dr Tariq Fazl Chaudhry for Parliamentary Affairs also attended, alongside Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider.

Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider provided a detailed briefing on the legislative items to be addressed during the current sitting, enabling the committee to prioritise business and set expectations for debate and voting schedules. The committee agreed that the Senate’s present session is likely to continue until March 3, 2026, allowing more time for pending legislation to be considered.

The decisions taken by the Senate HBAC reflect an effort to balance procedural management with the need to provide lawmakers an opportunity to deliberate on important domestic and international matters, keeping the parliamentary calendar responsive to legislative priorities.
