Driving Polio Eradication Efforts in KP

Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication, Ms Ayesha Raza Farooq, visited the Emergency Operations Center in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) today to review the progress of the ongoing polio vaccination campaign and to assess operational performance across the province.

During the visit, the EOC KP Coordinator, Mr Shafiullah Khan, provided a detailed briefing on field implementation and coverage status, reporting Day 2 campaign progress in Peshawar and overall Day 3 performance in KP along with key operational updates from districts across the province. The update highlighted areas of strong turnout as well as locations needing intensified attention.

Ms Ayesha Raza Farooq stressed that effective supervision, strong coordination and timely decision making remain critical to the success of Polio Eradication efforts, underlining the importance of focused oversight to ensure no child is missed during rounds of immunization.

She commended the dedication of frontline polio workers, supervisors and EOC staff who continue to operate under challenging conditions to protect children from lifelong disability. Ms Farooq also urged further strengthening of community engagement, field monitoring and inter-departmental coordination to close immunity gaps and reach the campaign targets.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to a polio-free Pakistan, she called for collective action, accountability and sustained focus from all stakeholders to successfully interrupt poliovirus transmission in KP and beyond.
