Breaking Barriers for Contraceptive Access
The Directorate General Population Welfare at the Health & Population Department Punjab, led by Director General (R) Aurangzaib Haider Khan, convened World Contraception Day 2025 in Lahore with the theme Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges – Contraceptives for All. The gathering highlighted practical steps to expand contraceptive access across urban and rural communities in Punjab.
Representatives from TCI–Greenstar Social Marketing, UNFPA, DKT, Jhpiego Pakistan and other partner organisations joined academia, youth groups, NGOs, INGOs, political leaders and religious scholars to signal a united effort around family planning and reproductive health. Participants discussed coordination and outreach models aimed at improving availability of supplies and informed choice.
A panel on investing in contraception brought experts from the Population Welfare Department, Jhpiego, DKT, Evidence for Health and UNFPA together. Moderated by Salman ur Rasheed, the session sparked dynamic dialogue on innovative strategies and partnerships to strengthen supply chains, provider training and community engagement for sustained contraceptive access.
Hon. Khawaja Imran Nazir, Minister for Health & Population Punjab, attended as Chief Guest and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding quality family planning services. Ms. Saira Afzal Tarar, the Chief Minister’s Advisor on Population Welfare, outlined an integrated approach linking reproductive health with broader population welfare initiatives to reach underserved populations.
Speakers and attendees reiterated a shared vision for universal access to safe, affordable and informed contraceptive choices. The event reinforced local momentum for policies and partnerships that will make contraceptive access more equitable across Punjab.
