Expanding Skills with Google Career Certificates

The Government of Punjab, in partnership with Google and Tech Valley, signed a memorandum of understanding at the Higher Education Department in Lahore to launch more than 20,000 Google Career Certificates scholarships for students at public universities and district colleges across Punjab for 2025. The initiative aims to broaden access to industry-recognized training and bridge skills gaps for graduates entering the job market.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Secretary of the Higher Education Department, Ghulam Farid, alongside Additional Secretaries Ms. Zahida, Mr. Aftab and Ms. Mahwish, as well as Naveed Hassan, Project Director HED, and Tech Valley CEO Umar Farooq. Representatives from Google joined the provincial delegation to finalise operational details for scholarship rollout and institutional partnerships across districts.

Under the programme, students will gain access to specialization courses in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital marketing and project management through the Google Career Certificates platform. The focus on practical, employer-aligned skills is intended to help Punjab’s graduates compete for both local and international job opportunities and meet rising demand in the digital economy.

This collaboration reflects a strategic effort to equip learners with globally recognized credentials and to strengthen pathways from education to employment. By deploying the Google Career Certificates across public universities and district colleges, the provincial government and its partners expect to scale technical training and support workforce readiness throughout Punjab in 2025.
