Leading Change in Teaching on World Teachers Day
The Faculty of Education at International Islamic University Islamabad observed World Teachers Day at the Fatima Tuz Zahra Block Auditorium on the Female Campus, adopting the global theme Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession. The Departments of Educational Leadership & Management and Teacher Education jointly organised the event to honour teachers and motivate aspiring educators across Pakistan.
The program opened with a ribbon cutting led by Dr. Tabassum Naz, Director of the National Curriculum Council; Prof. Dr. Amna Mehmood, Incharge Female Campus; and Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Incharge Programs, Faculty of Education, followed by a recitation of the Holy Quran and the national anthem. The ceremony set a reflective tone for World Teachers Day activities at IIUI.
In his welcome remarks, Dr. Azhar Mahmood underlined the role of teachers as nation builders and lifelong mentors. He stressed that modern teaching demands collective wisdom and community support, noting that teachers and students thrive when they feel connected and supported as part of a larger learning community.
Students paid tribute through speeches and poetry, expressing gratitude for the guidance and dedication of their teachers and highlighting teaching as a vocation that shapes character and opportunity within Pakistani society.
Guest speaker Dr. Tabassum Naz spoke about the lifelong influence of educators and urged teachers to respond to evolving classroom realities shaped by artificial intelligence and global innovation. She emphasised that curriculum design and classroom practice must work together to produce meaningful learning experiences that prepare learners for rapidly changing contexts.
Prof. Dr. Amna Mehmood offered personal reflections on the transformative power of teaching, observing that teaching is not merely a profession but a potent force for social change. She commended teachers for embodying societal values and said their patience and passion inspire future generations of educators across the country.
Dr. Alina Raza, Incharge Academic Affairs at the Department of Teacher Education, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the organising committee, faculty and students for ensuring a well-executed event. The celebration reinforced the Faculty of Education’s commitment to preparing value-driven, future-ready teachers and encouraged IIUI students to embrace collaboration, innovation and excellence in their professional journeys on and beyond World Teachers Day.
