Championing Girls Football in Islamabad

Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Asian Football Confederation and FIFA Vice President, attended a lively girls’ football match at Islamabad College for Girls in F-6/2, Islamabad, where young players displayed notable skill and enthusiasm.

During the visit the AFC President engaged directly with the students, coaches and school administrators, acknowledging the confidence and excitement evident on the field and praising the hard work of everyone involved. It’s heartening to see the passion and talent of these young girls. Football has the power to empower and inspire, and I’m delighted to see it being played at the grassroots level in Pakistan, he said, highlighting the role of sport in personal development.

Sheikh Salman also toured the school campus and met faculty members, commending Islamabad College for Girls for its commitment to combining education with sporting opportunities. His comments underscored the importance of sustained support for girls football so that more students across Pakistan can benefit from organized sport.
