Punjab Launches Merit Cricket Trials in Rawalpindi

Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry announced on Saturday the start of merit cricket trials for the Rawalpindi Division Grade-II team, describing the initiative as part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s broader plan to boost sports in Punjab.

He said the Chief Minister has directed that talent will be the only criterion for selection and that the entire process has been made transparent to ensure fairness for every aspiring player.

The selected players will receive world-class training facilities, professional coaching and necessary resources provided by the Punjab government, and the talent hunt will be rolled out to all divisions across the province to offer equal opportunities to youth.

Danyal Chaudhry expressed confidence that these merit cricket trials will unearth talent capable of representing Pakistan with distinction at national and international levels.

The inauguration was attended by MNA Tahira Aurangzeb, Director General Ahmed Hassan Ranjha of the Horticulture Agency, Punjab Sports Board officials, coaches and a large turnout of players; Danyal Chaudhry praised the inter-institutional coordination under the Chief Minister’s sports vision as promising and welcome.

Officials emphasised that the merit cricket trials will follow clear guidelines and open selection standards to ensure every participant is assessed on ability rather than connections, reinforcing the programme’s commitment to transparency and opportunity.
