**Federal Minister of Railways Promises National Railway Progress and Community Development Initiatives**
The Federal Minister of Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, announced significant efforts to bolster the country’s railway sector, emphasizing that the nation’s progress is closely linked to advancements in rail infrastructure and services. He conveyed optimism about upcoming improvements, including land acquisitions, station upgrades, and community development projects. Abbasi highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency, safety, and accessibility of Pakistan Railways, while also emphasizing government support and regional connectivity ambitions.
During his address at the National Press Club in Islamabad, Abbasi outlined comprehensive plans for the revitalization of Pakistan Railways. He revealed that the railway ministry has reclaimed billions of rupees worth of land, which will be utilized for future development projects. Upgrades are underway at various railway stations, including the introduction of informational desks and improved amenities such as better food quality and enhanced restroom facilities. A new initiative to introduce train hosts on the Green Line pilot project aims to improve passenger comfort and service quality.
Abbasi discussed the broader strategic vision, including regional connectivity projects such as Thar Coal, Reko Diq, and exports to Russia. He stated that Pakistan was prepared to run trains to Russia, but geopolitical tensions, notably the Iran-Israel conflict, caused delays. He also mentioned that Pakistan allocated substantial funds to India’s railway sector this year—amounting to approximately 700 billion rupees—highlighting the potential for similar investment and progress within Pakistan if supported adequately.
Regional political dynamics received mention, with Abbasi acknowledging the active role of Punjab’s leadership, particularly Maryam Nawaz, in railway development efforts. He praised the Punjab government’s investments, which have significantly contributed to railway improvements. Discussions with the Chief Ministers of Balochistan and Sindh are also ongoing to foster further regional cooperation and investment in railway infrastructure.
Operational improvements include plans to outsource certain train services, such as the Bolan Mail and Khushhal Khan Khattak Express, which have been reinstated to improve passenger convenience. Abbasi noted that every school and college aims to meet international standards, reflecting the broader vision of integrating education and transportation infrastructure.
In addition to modernization efforts, Abbasi highlighted cost-cutting measures like restructuring staffing and eliminating non-essential departments, resulting in Pakistan Railways realizing its highest-ever revenue collection in its 77-year history. He expressed confidence that with government continued support, Pakistan Railways could become a profitable entity in the near future.
Furthermore, the minister touched upon social and community initiatives, including plans to fund a 10-crore-rupee gym at the National Press Club Islamabad. He reaffirmed the nation’s resilience by praising the response to Indian aggression and celebrating the historic defense against invasions, underscoring national unity and strength.
