Pakistan India Prisoner Lists Exchanged After Ceasefire

In a significant development following the recent ceasefire, Pakistan and India have exchanged lists of prisoners in line with their mutual consular access agreement. This exchange represents notable progress in bilateral relations since the ceasefire earlier this year.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson, both sides exchanged the prisoners’ lists under the 2008 Consular Access Agreement. As per the agreement, the two countries regularly share updated details regarding prisoners held in each other’s custody.

Pakistan has handed over a comprehensive list to India containing details of 246 prisoners, identified as Indian nationals or individuals believed to be Indian nationals. Within this group, 53 individuals have been classified as civilians, while the remaining 193 are fishermen.

This step towards transparency and diplomatic engagement offers renewed hopes of further stability and improved relations between the two neighboring countries, following a prolonged period of tension.
