National authorities have issued an alert forecasting heavy rainfall and potential flooding across Pakistan, warning of possible flash floods and rising water levels in major rivers and streams. Authorities advised residents in vulnerable locations to exercise extreme caution and follow recommended safety measures to avoid harm.
According to the National Emergency Operations Centre, significant rainfall is expected to affect several provinces, including Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. As a consequence, water levels in rivers and streams such as the Chenab, Jhelum, Sindh, Kabul, and Hunza are predicted to rise significantly, with potential low-level flooding anticipated at Marala and Qadirabad.
Specific areas are particularly vulnerable to local flooding. In northeastern Punjab, southern Balochistan (particularly Awaran, Khuzdar, and Jhal Magsi districts), and parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have warned of possible flash flooding and related disruptions.
The National Emergency Operations Centre urged communities to adopt precautions to mitigate potential risks. Citizens have been strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel and not to attempt crossing rivers, streams, or bridges during periods of heavy rainfall. Residents living in low-lying and flood-prone areas should immediately take precautionary measures to safeguard themselves and property, including preparing emergency kits containing food, drinking water, medicines, and other necessary supplies.
The authorities have also advised the public to stay informed by regularly following weather updates through official channels, social media platforms, and the NDMA Disaster Alert mobile app for timely guidance and accurate information.
