Abai Qunanbaiuly’s Legacy and 180th Anniversary Celebration

Kazakhstan is marking the 180th anniversary of Abai Qunanbaiuly, a celebrated poet, philosopher, and national icon whose works have greatly influenced the country’s cultural and intellectual heritage. Abai is revered for his contributions to world literature and for shaping generations with his focus on themes such as patriotism, morality, hard work, knowledge, and justice.
Abai Qunanbaiuly, who lived from 1845 to 1904, is especially known for his poetry and prose, which delve into enduring questions about human nature, the pursuit of harmony, and the purpose of life. His renowned work, “The Book of Words,” stands as a testament to his philosophical insight and continues to enlighten readers on ethical and spiritual issues.
A major highlight in celebrating Abai’s legacy has been the translation of “The Book of Words” into four of Pakistan’s official provincial languages: Pashto, Punjabi, Sindhi, and Balochi. This multilingual edition was unveiled during the 12th meeting of the Kazakhstan-Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission, reflecting growing cultural cooperation between the two countries.
Continuing these efforts, an official presentation of the translated version of “The Book of Words” was recently held at the National Library of Pakistan in Islamabad. This event attracted attention from academic and cultural circles, further emphasizing Abai’s cross-cultural significance and the enduring value of his literary and philosophical work.
