Punjab Pre-Smog Initiatives and Stakeholder Collaboration

The Punjab government has intensified its efforts to combat smog as officials reviewed pre-smog measures and preparedness during a high-level meeting chaired by Secretary of Environment Protection and Climate Change Department (EP&CCD), Ms. Silwat Saeed. The meeting brought together key officials, including the Director General of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, Project Director of SP&IU, Tariq Hussain Bhatti, and Additional Secretary (Technical), Ms. Shumaila Manzoor.

During the meeting, Dr. Sheikh outlined the comprehensive action plan currently being implemented, which includes a series of interventions to minimize the impact of smog in Punjab. He provided an update on existing efforts and highlighted ongoing collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and execution of anti-smog strategies.

Secretary Silwat Saeed emphasized the need for stronger monitoring and urged all departments to ensure the timely execution of pre-smog initiatives. She put forward several recommendations designed to further enhance monitoring mechanisms and improve the overall effectiveness of measures being taken to tackle smog across the province.

The meeting reaffirmed the government’s resolve to address air quality and public health risks posed by smog, signaling active and coordinated steps to reduce pollution levels ahead of the peak smog season.
