Yusuf Raza Gilani Meets Journalists in Multan Highlights Media Role and National Unity

Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gillani welcomed senior journalists from all four provinces to Multan, highlighting the city’s historical significance. In his meeting with the press, Gillani addressed national security, recent flooding, media issues, and plans for legislative support for journalists.

Gillani emphasized that any attack from India is unacceptable for Pakistan, noting that Pakistan’s response had been purely defensive. He stated that Pakistan had successfully countered the Indian narrative on international platforms, strengthening its diplomatic position. Addressing the journalists directly, he commended their responsible reporting during challenging times, underlining the importance of accurate information and decrying the negative impact that fake news and sensationalism have had on the credibility of the media.

Focusing on challenges faced by the country, Gillani identified terrorism, economic concerns, and governance as critical issues. He singled out Punjab, which is experiencing severe flooding this year, and expressed deep concern over the resulting damage. He praised provincial governments, public representatives, the armed forces, the administration, and welfare organizations for their ongoing relief efforts, stressing that national solidarity and joint action are the only ways to overcome the flood crisis. Gillani urged philanthropists, charitable groups, and citizens to come forward and support flood-affected communities in this difficult period.

Gillani reiterated the Senate’s commitment to enacting laws that protect journalists’ rights and ensure their safety. He also acknowledged the longstanding role of Anjuman Islamia Multan in organizing the Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebrations for the past century, noting that this year the event is being celebrated at the official level as well. Gillani concluded by stating that the nation has always shown resilience in the face of adversity and will continue to do so.
