Ramiz Raja Exposes Key Figure Behind Flat Pitches in Test Matches

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Ramiz Raja, has attributed the disappointing condition of home pitches during his tenure to then-captain Babar Azam.

Speaking on BBC Test Match Special, Raja claimed Babar played a key role in pitch-related decisions, contradicting his earlier defense of the surfaces during Pakistan’s series against Australia in 2022.

The former PCB Chairman explained that the Lahore born cricketer led the pitch strategy, and while he sometimes questioned it, he followed the plan of the skipper.

Ramiz Raja acknowledged that inconsistent pitches had hindered the performance of the national cricket team, particularly during the high-scoring draw test matches against Australia in 2022 in Rawalpindi.

During the interview, Raja also critiqued the Test captaincy of Babar Azam, praising his leadership in limited-overs cricket but expressing frustration over his field settings in Tests.

Ramiz Raja emphasized the role of Babar Azam in maintaining team morale and stressed the importance of players like Babar and Shaheen Afridi in promoting Pakistan cricket.
