Islamabad Food Authority Seals Factory and Tells Off 1000kg Ketchup

Islamabad Food Authority Takes Strict Action Against Food Safety Violations
Islamabad: In a decisive crackdown, the Islamabad Food Authority has sealed a factory located on Tarlai Lehtara Road and confiscated over 1,000 kilograms of expired and substandard food products, including improper storage of condiments. The operation was launched due to repeated violations of safety protocols and failure to adhere to prior warnings, resulting in the cancellation of the factory’s license and the disposal of contaminated goods.
During the raid, authorities discovered a significant quantity of expired food items, including more than 150 kilograms of expired pulp and 10 kilograms of tridosodium citrate, which were promptly destroyed to prevent any health risks. The factory was found to be operating in serious breach of food safety standards, with products prepared using substandard raw materials and without proper certifications.
Food safety officers revealed that the factory was producing ketchup with materials that did not meet quality standards. Additionally, there was evidence of improper storage practices, such as the absence of temperature-controlled environments for perishable ingredients and the presence of standing water and food items scattered across the floor. These violations raise concerns over hygiene and safety protocols within the manufacturing unit.
Further inspections uncovered violations relating to staff safety and operational procedures. Staff members were found working without appropriate safety uniforms, and there was a lack of certified chemical usage documentation for various food items, highlighting negligence in maintaining proper production hygiene and documentation standards.
The authorities emphasized that the factory was operating in defiance of multiple warnings and regulations. The strict action included sealing the facility and destroying the remaining unsafe inventory. Director Dr. Tahira Sadiq underscored that such measures are crucial to safeguarding public health and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations across the region.
The implementation of this operation demonstrates the Food Authority’s commitment to enforce food safety laws rigorously and protect consumers from potentially hazardous products.
