Pakistan’s Export Growth Roadmap to 2035 and Private Sector Role

Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, chaired a high-level meeting to review a comprehensive roadmap aimed at boosting private sector-driven growth and achieving an ambitious target of $100 billion in exports by 2035. The strategic initiative prioritizes innovation, entrepreneurship, and the creation of a value-added export-oriented economy to elevate Pakistan’s position in the global economic landscape.

During the meeting, Minister Iqbal emphasized converting the six strategic pillars of the “Uraan-e-Pakistan” initiative into actionable, measurable, and cross-sectoral outcomes. This approach intends to make the impacts of growth clearly visible across all sectors of the economy.

Participants extensively reviewed the successful export development models of various nations, highlighting the importance of deriving lessons from these global experiences. Special attention was given to the effective strategies employed by countries that had rapidly developed their economies by empowering the private sector.

In-depth analysis of existing industrial and export clusters in Pakistan was undertaken. This assessment helped identify both the gaps in current structures and future improvement opportunities. There was consensus on the necessity of establishing new, high-value industrial clusters that align with emerging global market demands, ultimately ensuring sustained export growth.

Dr. Suhaib, Member for Private Sector Development at the planning ministry, presented a detailed roadmap during the meeting. Senior officials, including the Chief Economist, the Vice Chancellor of the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), and senior representatives from the planning ministry attended the discussion, contributing insights and recommendations towards realizing the 2035 export goals.
