Balochistan Prison Staff Training on Rights-Based Reforms

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), under the EU-funded “Deliver Justice Project,” recently conducted specialized training sessions for prison personnel in Balochistan, aimed at enhancing prisoner safety, rehabilitation, human rights, and sustainable reintegration into society.

The training initiative focused extensively on familiarizing participants with international standards such as the Nelson Mandela Rules, as well as strengthening prison security protocols. Additionally, the sessions highlighted the importance and implementation strategies for vocational training programs to effectively rehabilitate inmates, preparing them for successful reintegration following their prison terms.

Participants from Balochistan’s prison administration, including Assistant Superintendents, Warders, and Matrons, attended the intensive sessions. The training equipped them with the essential knowledge, skills, and practical approaches required for implementing rights-based reforms within prison facilities.

The Inspector General of the Balochistan Prison Department was present at the closing ceremony, where he distributed certificates of completion to all training participants. He reaffirmed the department’s strong institutional commitment toward promoting human-centered and rights-based correctional governance, reflecting an ongoing effort to uphold ethical standards and ensure humane detention conditions across the province’s correctional facilities.
