Pakistan Partners with GGGI for Climate Action and Green Growth

Pakistan Deepens Partnership with Global Green Growth Initiative for Climate Action

Pakistan’s efforts to tackle climate change took a step forward as Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, met with Ms. Laura Jalasjoki, Country Representative of the Global Green Growth Initiative (GGGI), to discuss strengthened collaboration and sustainable solutions.

During their meeting in Islamabad, Ms. Jalasjoki outlined GGGI’s mission to support its 51 member countries in achieving inclusive and sustainable green growth. She emphasized the organization’s commitment to helping nations transition to low-carbon, climate-resilient economies through technical assistance and capacity building.

Dr. Malik highlighted the importance of fostering partnerships that focus on long-term sustainability and measurable impact. He stressed that Pakistan’s top priority is developing climate strategies that achieve both adaptation and mitigation objectives, particularly in sectors that are highly vulnerable to climate change, such as agriculture.

The potential role of carbon markets as a key financial tool for sustainable development was a major point of discussion. Dr. Malik underscored the need for support to address the viability gap in carbon market mechanisms and welcomed GGGI’s expertise in providing technical assistance to help Pakistan tap these opportunities.

Both sides also explored ways to enhance Pakistan’s capacity for climate adaptation and mitigation, with a strong focus on agriculture and nature-based solutions. Dr. Malik reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working with international partners like GGGI to accelerate the country’s transition to a green and resilient economy, ensuring climate action remains central in the nation’s policy agenda.
