Talha and Roman Triumph to Win ITF J60 Doubles

The Treet ITF Pakistan Syed Dilawar Abbas Memorial Junior Tennis Championship (J-60, Leg-3) concluded at the PTF Tennis Complex with strong international participation and competitive matches across both boys and girls draws. The ITF J60 event featured 24 boys and 20 girls representing 16 countries including Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Japan, China, Australia, Russia, Poland, South Korea, Sri Lanka, the USA, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the Netherlands and Thailand.

The championship, held in memory of the late Senator Syed Dilawar Abbas who served as President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation from 2001 to 2009, drew support from sponsors Faisal Movers, Book Karo, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, Ndure and Syngenta, helping to raise the standard of junior competition on home soil.

In the Boys’ Doubles final, Pakistan’s Abubakar Talha and Hamza Roman produced a commanding performance to defeat Singapore’s Luke Jie Xi Ho and compatriot Mikaeel Ali Baig 6-1, 6-0, clinching the ITF J60 doubles title for the home pair. The win highlighted Pakistan’s growing strength in junior doubles play at ITF events.

The Girls’ Doubles title went to Yerin Lim of South Korea and Zhiyu Zhou of China, who edged out Japan’s Kiko Okuyama and China’s Zihan Feng 6-3, 1-6, (12-10) in a closely fought match that finished with a dramatic match tiebreak.

At the closing ceremony, Mr Tariq Mehmood Murtaza attended as Chief Guest while Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, President PTF, was Guest of Honour and both presented prizes to winners and runners-up. The ceremony was also attended by Mr Syed Ali Murtaza, Mr Majid Bashir, Mr Tufail Cheema, Col Zia-ud-din Tufail, Mr Saeed Ahmad Khan and Mr Syed Ahsan Zaidi, alongside a large gathering of players, coaches, parents and tennis supporters.

Play resumes at the PTF Tennis Complex tomorrow with the ITF Men’s Futures M-15 (Leg-1) tournament, scheduled to start at 10:00 AM, continuing Islamabad’s run of international tennis action following the ITF J60 event.
