National Assembly Committee Seeks Action Against SHO Privilege Breach

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges has unanimously recommended the suspension of the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Crime Control Department (CCD), Gujrat, following allegations of violating parliamentary privileges and orchestrating a false media campaign against Member of National Assembly (MNA) Chaudhry Naseer Ahmed Abbas. The Regional Police Officer (RPO), Gujrat, assured the committee that a departmental inquiry would be undertaken swiftly, and assured disciplinary action against the SHO, with findings to be reported back to the committee.
This decision was reached during the 10th meeting of the Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges, held at Parliament House, Islamabad. Chaired by MNA Muhammad Afzal, members of the Committee expressed serious concern over the allegations involving misuse of authority and defamation against MNA Ch. Naseer Ahmed Abbas. After thorough discussions, consensus was reached regarding the suspension of the accused officer from official duties pending further investigation.
In addition to addressing the privilege breach issue, the Committee deliberated extensively on proposed amendments to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007. These amendments were presented by MNA Syed Rafiullah. Following the request of the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, the Committee decided that this proposal required further in-depth consideration. Consequently, the amendments were referred to the House Business Advisory Committee to ensure comprehensive review, allowing representatives from all political parties to provide input.
Attending the meeting were notable MNAs including Ch. Naseer Ahmed Abbas, Mr. Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Mr. Waseem Qadir, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasar, Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali, Mir Ghulam Ali Talpur, Ms. Shagufta Jumani, Mr. Ramesh Lal, Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan, Ms. Aniqa Mehdi, Mr. Ghulam Muhammad, Malik Muhammad Aamir Dogar, along with the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs. Additionally, the mover of the amendments, Syed Rafiullah, actively participated in the proceedings.
Senior officials from several governmental institutions were also present. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministries of Parliamentary Affairs, Law and Justice, and the Interior, together with senior officers from Islamabad Police, Punjab Police, and the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
