Pakistan Steps Up for Women’s Justice and Human Rights

**Government Reiterates Commitment to Justice for Women, Vows Strict Action Against Human Rights Violations**
The government has reaffirmed its resolve to ensure justice for women, pledging a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and emphasizing strong measures to address human rights violations. This commitment was underscored during a meeting on human rights, where officials highlighted recent high-profile cases and the steps being taken to secure justice for victims.
Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights, Saba Sadiq, addressed the gathering, which included Secretary of Human Rights Abdul Khaliq Sheikh, SP Operations Syed Kazim Naqvi, Prosecutor General Ghulam Sarwar, President of the National Press Club Azhar Jatoi, affected family members, civil society representatives, lawyers, and members of the media. Saba Sadiq expressed deep concern over three recent incidents involving crimes against young girls, describing them as tragic and reprehensible. She commended the Islamabad Police for their swift action in arresting the suspects involved in these cases.
Saba Sadiq stated that the government is determined to make the cases of Sana Yousuf, Iman Afroze, and Sania as test cases to set a precedent for strict prosecution. “We aim to build a prosecution so strong that no perpetrator escapes justice,” she remarked, adding that a comprehensive action plan is underway to prevent and respond to violations. The government, she noted, is positioning itself as a bridge between victims and law enforcement agencies to facilitate the delivery of justice.
SP Operations Syed Kazim Naqvi briefed attendees on the progress of the investigations, confirming that charges have been filed in the courts and all suspects will be brought to justice. Prosecutor General Ghulam Sarwar added that the Supreme Court has upheld the death penalty for Zahir Jaffer in the Noor Mukadam case, demonstrating the judiciary’s commitment to punishing offenders under the law.
Family members of Sana Yousuf, Iman Afroze, and Sania also shared their perspectives during the meeting, emphasizing the emotional and social impact of these incidents.
Concluding the session, Saba Sadiq highlighted that creating a safer society is a collective responsibility and assured that the government is fully aware of its duties. The government’s ongoing efforts aim to ensure timely and effective justice for women and to foster a culture of human rights and accountability across Pakistan.
