Building Gender-Responsive Capacity in Balochistan Police

**UN Women Conducts Gender Sensitization Training for Balochistan Police Officers**

In a significant step towards creating a more gender-responsive law enforcement system, 89 police officials in Balochistan received specialized training aimed at strengthening their understanding of gender issues and related legislation. The training, held at the Police Training College in Quetta, was organized by UN Women as part of the European Union-funded Access to Justice Project.

The initiative comprised two separate sessions, engaging 39 male officers in one and 50 female officers in another. The program introduced participants to core gender concepts and terminology, equipping them with the tools needed to address gender-related challenges in their daily duties.

Key components of the training included an overview of pro-women legislation, with a particular focus on policy frameworks specific to Balochistan. Trainers also provided information on relevant international commitments such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the Beijing Platform for Action.

Participants were oriented on the Anti-Rape Act 2021, including practical aspects of its implementation, and received a basic introduction to the Essential Services Package. By empowering law enforcement officials with knowledge and skills in gender sensitivity, the project aims to foster a more inclusive and just policing environment in Balochistan.
