Capacity Building for Math and English Teachers in Karachi

**A comprehensive capacity-building training program for secondary school teachers in Mathematics and English was launched today at Beach Luxury Hotel, Karachi, under the ADB-assisted Sindh Secondary Education Improvement Project (SSEIP). The initiative aims to enhance the pedagogical skills of approximately 200 teachers over a 12-day workshop, equipping them with modern teaching methodologies and assessment techniques.**

The newly designed program adopts a multi-faceted approach to teacher development, with a strong emphasis on pedagogy and the use of student learning outcomes (SLO) as the basis for instruction. The training also highlights the importance of gender inclusiveness in the classroom and the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) to boost the effectiveness of teaching strategies.

A key objective of the initiative is to transform traditional classroom practices. The workshop advocates a shift from rote memorization to concept-based learning, encouraging teachers to foster critical thinking skills among students. Additionally, it promotes a move from teacher-centered to learning-centered instructional methods and introduces modern assessment tools such as OMR-based and e-marking systems.

The program is implemented in collaboration with Maxwell Stamp Limited, a leading teacher training and assessment firm. Senior management from the Project Implementation Unit (PIU), SSEIP, and master trainers welcomed the cohort of teachers at the opening ceremony. The effort underlines the continued commitment of the Sindh School Education & Literacy Department (SELD) to improve educational outcomes by investing in teacher capacity and modernizing instruction across the province.
