Advancing Interfaith Harmony in Punjab
Allama Ashfaq Wahidi, central leader of the Shia Ulema Council Pakistan and chairman of the OSPAC Interfaith Board, and Maulana Hafiz Iqbal Rizvi, chairman of the Peace Committee Rawalpindi, met with Governor Punjab Sardar Salim Haider at Punjab House in Rawalpindi to discuss national stability and communal cohesion.
The leaders expressed a firm commitment to strengthening the country’s resilience against current challenges and said Interfaith Harmony must be an active national priority. Allama Ashfaq Wahidi urged the government to involve all religious and political parties in major national decisions so that Pakistan’s collective strength is maintained.
Speakers at the meeting highlighted that Pakistan’s respect and reputation on the world stage are the result of robust national and defence policies, and they pledged to protect that standing by promoting unity and social stability at home.
Both leaders promised to support initiatives that carry the message of Interfaith Harmony beyond borders and to cooperate with state institutions in efforts to foster mutual understanding among communities. Governor Sardar Salim Haider praised the unity and collaborative approach of Allama Ashfaq Wahidi and Maulana Hafiz Iqbal Rizvi in promoting peace and order.
The delegation and the governor agreed that no concessions should be made to those who incite violence, spread division, or promote sectarianism, and they resolved that such elements must be dealt with firmly to preserve peace across Pakistan.
Governor Salim Haider also announced that, ahead of the month of Ramadan, the government will undertake comprehensive search operations in cities and prioritise foolproof security measures to ensure public safety during the holy month. The meeting reiterated a shared determination to work together for security, unity, and Interfaith Harmony.
