Expanding Padel Tennis Access in Islamabad

A newly constructed padel tennis court at Islamabad Model College for Girls (F-8/1) was inaugurated in a ceremony supported and funded by the Pakistan Sports Board and the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination. The event was attended by Federal Secretary IPC Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani and Director General Pakistan Sports Board Yasir Pirzada, marking a practical step toward wider sports access in government institutions.

The initiative follows Federal Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani’s assessment that many educational institutions lack modern sports facilities. With coordination between IPC and PSB, the project aims to close that gap by delivering inclusive, up-to-date infrastructure so students can benefit from organised sport on campus.

Three padel tennis courts have already been completed at Islamabad Model College for Girls F-8/1, Islamia College for Girls F-6, and Islamabad College for Boys G-6, and additional courts and sports amenities are under construction across other colleges in the capital. What was once viewed as an elite pastime is being reframed as a regular sporting option available free of charge to students at government-run schools and colleges.

Director General Pakistan Sports Board Yasir Pirzada said the collaboration is intended to ensure every student, regardless of background, has the opportunity to play, develop skills, and potentially represent Pakistan at higher levels. The expansion of padel tennis courts is being positioned as part of a broader effort to nurture talent and increase participation in organised sports across Islamabad.

Local education and sports authorities expect the new facilities to encourage greater participation among female students and strengthen community-level competition. As more courts come online, the programme will continue to prioritise accessibility, coaching support, and integration with existing college sports programmes.
