Advancing IPC Surveillance Across Pakistan

National Institutes of Health in close collaboration with the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination formally disseminated three landmark national documents that mark a decisive step forward for infection prevention and control and IPC surveillance in Pakistan.

The documents comprise the National IPC Strategic Plan 2025–2030, the National HAI Surveillance and Response Strategic Plan 2025–2030 and the National HAI Surveillance and Response Implementation Guidelines 2025, together establishing a structured, time-bound framework for IPC surveillance and HAI response nationwide.

Senior officials from MoNHSR&C and NIH attended the ceremony alongside the National IPC Focal Person, Provincial IPC Focal Persons, subject matter experts and development partners, all of whom recognised the launch as a major milestone that moves IPC and HAI surveillance from vision to a nationally owned agenda.

Leadership from MoNHSR&C and NIH expressed strong appreciation for the C19RM project team and the IPC team at NIH for their dedication, technical rigour and perseverance in drafting the documents. Warm acknowledgement was also extended to national and provincial experts and partners whose engagement ensured the final products are evidence-based, context-appropriate and aligned with global best practices.

All stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to fully implement the new strategies and guidelines, strengthen IPC surveillance at facility and provincial levels, and conduct regular monitoring and review. The shared aim is to meet the objectives set out for IPC and HAI surveillance by 2030 and deliver safer healthcare for every patient in Pakistan.
