Pakistan Health Insurance Milestones and SECP-SSP Collaboration

The leadership of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and the Federal Sehat Sahulat Program (SSP) recently discussed ways to expand health insurance coverage and strengthen Pakistan’s insurance sector during a visit to the SSP’s advanced Data Science Center. The meeting highlighted the SSP’s successful efforts in providing healthcare coverage to millions nationwide and explored opportunities for further collaboration.
During the visit, Chairperson SECP Akif Saeed, Commissioner Insurance Mujtaba Ahmad Lodhi, and the SECP insurance team toured the SSP’s data facility, where the SSP team demonstrated how technology is enabling more efficient health insurance services. CEO of the Sehat Sahulat Program, Muhammad Arshad, detailed the program’s significant role in widening healthcare access across Pakistan, noting its transformative impact on society.
Chairperson Akif Saeed reaffirmed the SECP’s commitment to reforming and developing the insurance industry. Key initiatives include the launch of a Five-Year Strategic Plan designed to modernize the sector, important updates to the Insurance Ordinance and the Motor Vehicles Act, and new research efforts aimed at creating a more robust insurance ecosystem.
The meeting also focused on the potential for partnership between SECP and SSP, with discussions centered on expanding health insurance options and enhancing social security for Pakistani citizens through joint initiatives.
