Pakistan School Safety Framework Rolled Out Nationwide

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has handed over the Pakistan School Safety Framework (PSSF) to federal and provincial education departments for nationwide implementation. This move aims to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience in schools across the country.

The official handover took place during a high-level meeting at NDMA headquarters, where stakeholders agreed on adopting the PSSF as the central reference for all school safety measures. The framework, recognized as a collaborative and nationally-endorsed guide, will now be implemented by education departments with support from disaster management authorities.

To ensure successful rollout and oversight, a Technical Working Group jointly led by NDMA and the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training (MoFE&PT) has been established. This group, which includes provincial representatives, will monitor PSSF implementation, coordinate efforts, and prevent duplication. It will also oversee the activities of humanitarian partners, ensuring their work aligns with the framework and complements post-flood disaster risk reduction and climate resilience initiatives.

Stakeholders have acknowledged the PSSF E-Checklist as an effective tool for auditing school safety. The checklist enables authorities and partners to identify needs efficiently and concentrate resources on areas that require the most attention.

Representatives from key education bodies, disaster management authorities, and development partners such as UNICEF, Save the Children, and the Global Alliance for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience in the Education Sector participated in the session. Their collaboration is expected to accelerate the integration of disaster risk reduction practices into Pakistan’s education system, supporting safer learning environments for students nationwide.
