Pak-China Workshop on Modern Agricultural Water Saving Irrigation

Pak-China Workshop at Arid University Promotes Water-Saving Irrigation Technologies

A major initiative to foster sustainable agriculture and international collaboration was launched as Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) hosted a Pak-China International Training Workshop on Modern Agricultural Water Saving Irrigation Technologies. The event aims to equip local agricultural professionals with advanced techniques to conserve water, a crucial resource amid growing global challenges.

The workshop is organized in partnership with China’s Xinjiang Tianye Water-Saving Irrigation Co., Ltd., the National Engineering Research Center for Water-Saving Irrigation (Xinjiang, China), and the Center for Modern Agriculture & Water Efficient Technologies (CMAWET) at PMAS-AAUR’s Faculty of Agricultural Engineering & Technology.

During his opening address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman highlighted the urgency of water conservation in the context of climate change, rising populations, and food security concerns. He stressed that water is one of the planet’s most vital and scarce resources, making the adoption of modern, efficient irrigation technologies essential to sustainable agriculture and environmental protection. Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman also underlined the event’s international character, noting the participation of eight expert trainers from China alongside three specialists from PMAS-AAUR. The program intends to develop Master Trainers who will lead the way in implementing and spreading advanced irrigation techniques throughout Pakistan.

The workshop has attracted government officials, technical experts, researchers, industry representatives, and farm managers from across the country. Participants are engaged in a comprehensive training program that includes classroom education, field demonstrations, hands-on sessions, and technical discussions. This multi-faceted approach is designed to ensure that the latest research in water-saving irrigation results in practical benefits for local agriculture.

Running until August next year, the workshop is set to provide an extended platform for knowledge exchange and cooperation between Pakistan and China, advancing innovation in agriculture and effective water management.
