Climate-Resilient Water Systems Protect Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Flood Victims

Floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have caused extensive damage, destroying homes, schools, and vital water systems, leaving many families cut off from essential services. Despite these challenges, recent climate-resilient water supply systems—rebuilt with the support of the UK in Pakistan, UNICEF, and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government following the 2022 floods—have continued to provide safe drinking water to children and families while other systems failed.
Thanks to UK support, UNICEF was able to preposition emergency supplies, allowing for a swift response in affected areas. In Swat and Buner, hygiene kits were quickly distributed to families to help protect children from dangerous waterborne diseases amid the ongoing crisis.
These efforts highlight the importance of investing in climate-resilient infrastructure, which can make a crucial difference by ensuring safety, health, and dignity for communities during severe flooding. By working together, stakeholders aim to protect children and build more resilient communities for the future.
