Improving Road Safety in Pakistan with WHO and ILO Collaboration

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) are joining forces in Pakistan to enhance road safety by integrating occupational safety standards with global health expertise. Their collaboration aims to align ILO’s frameworks for workplace safety with WHO’s technical guidance, particularly through the Safe System Approach, which focuses on minimizing human error and improving overall road infrastructure.
During a recent meeting, representatives from both organizations discussed practical steps to address road safety challenges in Pakistan. Recognizing that many road injuries and fatalities occur during work-related travel, the partnership seeks to promote policies that protect both workers and the general public on the roads.
By bringing together the ILO’s knowledge of labor practices and WHO’s expertise in public health, the organizations aim to develop strategies that not only prevent accidents but also strengthen enforcement and awareness initiatives. This joint effort is expected to advance Pakistan’s progress towards safer work environments and public spaces in line with international standards.
