IIUI Hosts Jolly Phonics Workshop for Early Literacy

The Institute of Professional Development (IPD) at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) recently organized a full-day Jolly Phonics training workshop to enhance early literacy skills among young learners. The event brought together around 90 teachers and coordinators from IIUI and other educational institutions for practical training on innovative literacy techniques.

The workshop began with remarks from Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, Consultant at IPD, who underlined the importance of effective literacy programs in building students’ foundational skills. Ms. Erum Tehreem, a certified Jolly Learning Trainer, led the session and introduced participants to the principles of synthetic phonics. Educators engaged with the 42 letter sounds of Jolly Phonics, explored methods such as blending, segmenting, and tackling tricky words, and learned how to use multisensory teaching approaches. The training also covered the integration of digital classroom resources and strategies for effective phonics instruction.

Throughout the session, attendees took part in demonstrations, group activities, and hands-on exercises designed to simulate the Jolly Phonics teaching experience. Many participants praised the workshop for its practical approach and expressed eagerness to implement the techniques in their own classrooms.

During the closing ceremony, Professor Dr. Nadeem Ahmed Sheikh, Director of IPD-IIUI, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to supporting teacher development, particularly in early childhood education. He recognized the participants with certificates and encouraged them to use their new skills to help improve literacy outcomes for young students.
