FMC Self-Defense Workshop Empowers Women with Skills and Confidence

Fazaia Medical College (FMC), Air University, in partnership with the Pakistan Martial Arts Association (PMAA) and IFMSA-Pakistan, held a two-day self-defense workshop aimed at empowering women with essential safety skills and boosting their confidence. The event was widely praised by students, faculty, and professionals for its focus on practical self-defense techniques and its broader message of resilience and empowerment.

The workshop was inaugurated by Maj Gen (R) Muhammad Tahir Khadim, Principal of FMC, who described the initiative as a vital shield of confidence for women facing increased challenges in public spaces. He emphasized that, in addition to academic accomplishments, developing mental resilience is crucial for young Pakistanis. Brig (R) Prof Muhammad Mazhar Hussain, Vice Principal of FMC, described the sessions as transformational, noting the pride in seeing female students master skills that enable them to defend themselves effectively.

Ms. Qurrat-ul-Ain of the Pakistan Sports Board delivered the keynote address on the theme “Courage is Contagious,” underlining the potential of each empowered woman to inspire others around her. The technical sessions, led by PMAA President Anwar Mohiuddin and his team, focused on practical self-defense strategies, including knife and pistol defense, pressure-point strikes, and situational awareness. The training went beyond standard martial arts demonstrations, equipping participants with tools relevant to real-life scenarios.

Students from leading institutions such as NUST, FAST, NDU, Bahria University, Air University, IIUI, Federal Medical & Dental College, and FMC actively took part in the training, with many experiencing self-defense education for the first time. The event also welcomed special guests Ms Aisha Farrukh and Ms Sonaina Younus from Serene Air, who applauded the program’s professionalism and immediate impact. Ms Farrukh announced that Serene Air, in collaboration with PMAA, will soon offer specialized self-defense courses for its female staff in major cities.

At the closing ceremony, certificates and prizes were awarded to participants, celebrating their achievements. Anwar Mohiuddin encouraged attendees to continue sharing their knowledge within their communities, framing the workshop not as an end, but the beginning of a movement to foster courage and safety for women across Pakistan. Principal Tahir Khadim concluded by highlighting the lasting impact of empowering women, stating that doing so builds stronger families and, ultimately, a stronger nation.
