NIH hostels in disrepair as minister orders swift repairs

Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal visited the aging hostels at the National Institute of Health and expressed serious concern over their dilapidated condition, ordering the institute to prepare a comprehensive plan for immediate repair and rehabilitation.

During the inspection, the minister observed significant structural and maintenance shortcomings in the old hostel buildings that could affect the safety and well-being of residents and staff. He emphasized the urgency of addressing these issues to prevent any hazards and to restore acceptable living conditions.

The minister directed NIH authorities to develop a detailed, actionable plan for immediate repairs and longer-term rehabilitation. The plan should identify required works, timelines, cost estimates and necessary resources so that remedial measures can begin without delay.

Highlighting the importance of safe accommodation for personnel and trainees at a national public health institution, the minister called for close monitoring of the repair work and timely reporting on progress to ensure accountability and efficient use of funds. The NIH has been asked to expedite implementation once the plan is finalized.
