Punjab Clean Air Program progress and future plans

The World Bank’s Regional Director for the MENA region met with senior officials from the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department to assess progress on the Punjab Green Development Program and to discuss future initiatives under the Punjab Clean Air Program. The meeting reviewed achievements to date and set out priorities for accelerating improvements in air quality and sustainable development across Punjab.
During the visit, the World Bank representative and EP&CCD leadership reviewed implementation progress under the Punjab Green Development Program. Officials highlighted progress on program components, including strengthened monitoring, pilot interventions in high-priority areas, and increased engagement with local stakeholders. Both sides noted that these initial gains provide a foundation for broader program scaling.
Discussion of the Punjab Clean Air Program focused on next steps to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Priorities identified included expanding air quality monitoring and data systems, scaling up proven mitigation measures, enhancing regulatory and policy frameworks, and strengthening capacity at provincial and local levels. Stakeholder engagement and public awareness were also underscored as essential elements for sustained impact.
The World Bank reaffirmed its commitment to support Punjab through technical assistance, knowledge sharing, and coordination with other development partners. EP&CCD officials emphasized their readiness to advance implementation and develop detailed plans for upcoming interventions. Both parties agreed to maintain close collaboration to ensure the programs deliver measurable improvements in air quality and promote sustainable, inclusive development across the province.
