Gilani Leads Flood Rehabilitation Drive

Acting President Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani vowed the government will remain by the side of flood-affected families until full recovery, stressing that no effort will be spared to restore lives and livelihoods across the region. He said flood rehabilitation must cover homes, farmlands, businesses and livestock lost to this season’s devastation.

At a relief distribution event in Multan, Gilani thanked relief partners and called for coordinated action. He praised the Farmer Development Organization, Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund, Mukhtar A. Sheikh Hospital and Pakistan Sweet Homes for providing food, shelter and essential supplies to thousands each day. He also committed that orphaned children would receive full educational support and ongoing care as part of the flood rehabilitation plan.

Gilani appealed directly to philanthropists, traders and industrialists to join public efforts, saying recovery cannot rely on government action alone. “These dark days will pass. Together with civil society, federal and provincial governments, we will rebuild stronger communities,” he said, urging an organised response to speed rehabilitation and livelihood restoration.

MNA Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani reported that 5,000 meals are being distributed daily within his constituency and reassured families they will not be abandoned during reconstruction. Officials and local leaders present included Chairman Public Accounts Committee Punjab Syed Ali Haider Gilani, MPA Kamran Abdullah, Ghulam Mustafa of the Farmer Development Organization and Zuhra Sajjad, who joined hands with federal representatives to coordinate relief and long-term flood rehabilitation efforts.
